📍 A Budget-Conscious Home Makeover That Blends Old and New

When it comes to home decoration and interior design, one of the biggest challenges homeowners face is making their space feel cohesive, functional, and personal—especially when mixing old and new pieces. At TADesign Studios, we believe that great design doesn’t mean starting from scratch. Sometimes, it’s about enhancing what’s already there.

Understanding the Client’s Needs

For this 990 sq ft condo renovation on Don Mills Road, our client wanted to refresh their apartment while keeping existing furniture. Some of their biggest challenges included: 1️⃣ Mix of old and new furniture felt disconnected – The client had a combination of modern and traditional furniture that didn’t feel cohesive.

2️⃣ Outdated carpet in the bedrooms – The existing carpet made the space feel dated and hard to maintain.

3️⃣ Sliding doors between the living area and sunroom – The doors blocked natural light and made the space feel closed off.

4️⃣ Existing green marble tile in the sunroom – The client wasn’t sure how to incorporate it into the new design.

5️⃣ Lack of proper lighting – Condo restrictions limited electrical work, making it hard to add built-in lighting.

6️⃣ Mismatched bedroom furniture – The furniture in the bedroom looked disconnected, creating a lack of harmony.

7️⃣ An inefficient office setup – The workspace wasn’t functional, and cables were exposed, making the area look cluttered.

8️⃣ Living room rug was too small – The existing rug was undersized, making the space feel unbalanced.

9️⃣ Transition after removing sliding doors – Once the doors were removed, the transition between spaces needed a refined finish.

Our Interior Design Approach

Instead of forcing a single aesthetic, we embraced a mid-century modern approach, blending traditional furniture with contemporary updates.

Our key design solutions included:

✅ Blending Old & New for a Cohesive Look

We embraced a mid-century modern design approach that bridged the gap between traditional and contemporary elements. By balancing materials, textures, and colors, we made both styles feel intentional.

Updated Office Sofa and Flooring

✅ Updating Flooring for a Fresh, Modern Look

We replaced the old bedroom carpet with wood flooring, instantly making the space feel brighter, cleaner, and more refined.

✅ Replacing Sliding Doors with a Reeded Glass Partition

Instead of heavy sliding doors that blocked light, we installed a reeded glass partition that enhanced openness while maintaining privacy. This simple change completely transformed how the space felt.

✅ Turning the Green Marble Tile into a Design Feature

Instead of removing the green marble tile in the sunroom, we designed a custom green marble side table that tied the element into the space. Now, it feels like an intentional design choice rather than a leftover feature.

Sunroom Overlooking Dining Space With New Layout

✅ Enhancing Lighting Without Electrical Changes

Since condo restrictions limited ceiling lighting updates, we focused on strategically placing floor and table lamps to create warmth and depth in the space.

✅ Unifying the Bedroom with a Bold Accent Wall

To connect the mismatched bedroom furniture, we introduced a teal green accent wall with subtle paneling. This gave the room a cozy, sophisticated feel while bringing everything together.

✅ Optimizing the Office Setup

We replaced the cluttered office setup with a custom built-in desk, keeping cables hidden and the workspace streamlined. Now, it’s a functional and stylish area that enhances productivity.

✅ Selecting the Right-Sized Rug for the Living Room

A properly sized rug makes all the difference in a room’s proportions. We sourced a larger, well-scaled rug to balance the space and anchor the furniture layout.

✅ Refining the Transition After Removing the Sliding Doors

Once the sliding doors were removed, we needed a seamless transition between the living area and sunroom. We selected sleek trim and finishing details to create a polished, built-in look.

By focusing on intentional updates and problem-solving, we transformed the space into a stylish, inviting home without unnecessary demolition or waste.

The Value of Thoughtful Interior Design

A well-designed space doesn’t just look beautiful—it solves problems. By tailoring solutions to our client’s needs, we created a home that felt elevated yet personal.
