The house had no personality and the lighting made it worse.
The clients were moving into a centrally located Toronto home and needed it furnished before they arrived. The space was architecturally sound but completely flat — no warmth, no character, and significant lighting problems throughout. The dining area was the worst: dark, undefined, and disconnected from the rest of the main floor.
The brief was to furnish the entire home with pieces that felt modern but not cold — character without clutter, elegance without formality. And it all needed to be ready for move-in.
Our Approach
The furniture selection was built around the home's existing architecture — pieces that complemented the proportions of each room rather than fighting them. The goal was cohesion across the full 2,800 sq ft, not room-by-room decisions that wouldn't connect.
Lighting was the second priority. A new chandelier above the dining table solved the most visible problem immediately. Existing fixtures were refined rather than replaced wholesale — the right intervention, not the most expensive one.
Decorative wall mouldings were added to the living room and primary bedroom to introduce depth and structure without renovation. In the living room, roman shades and sheer curtains framed the backyard view and added the softness the space was missing. The kitchen was refreshed with a lighter countertop and full-height backsplash — a finish change that reads as a transformation without touching the layout.
The Outcome
The clients moved into a home that was ready to live in immediately. Every room was furnished, styled, and functional from day one — no staging period, no placeholder pieces, nothing to revisit later.
The space reads as cohesive across all 2,800 sq ft: the lighting changes eliminated the flatness, the moulding details gave each key room a finished quality that the architecture alone didn't provide, and the furniture selection held together as a single direction rather than a collection of individual decisions.
